Do What You Love

Lately I've been doing a lot of thinking about dreams. The things I imagined myself doing, the places I imagined myself going and what I'm doing and where I am right now. I'd be lying if I said I'm completely happy with every aspect of where I am right now. But if there's nothing worth striving for, what's the point, right?

When I was younger, I pictured myself growing up to be so many different things. A photographer. An artist. A writer, vet, athlete (ha!), film maker (Michael Moore and I were totally going to make a documentary together), and of course, an astronaut. Sometimes I imagined myself being a part of my family's business. Sometimes I imagined myself simply as a stay-at-home mom, like my mom once was. The only constant was that... I could never settle on something.

And then I realized something. That no matter how old you are, no matter how much time has passed, you can still do what you love. (Or once loved.)

The only thing stopping you, is you.

Speaking of... check out this video. It's a guy who's having a conversation with himself in the past. The editing is pretty amazing, if you ask me.

His love of drawing was lost over time among many lost childhood dreams, I'm sure. But then something amazing happened. Along with uploading this video, he launched his own website. "Tell me to draw something" is as simple as that. People (you guys!) request a drawing, which Jeremiah posts on his site, and can even send you the original for the cost of shipping. And after the video went viral, those requests kept flooding in.

That's one way to take control.

The future is not set in stone. You can create it. Build it. Mold it into whatever you want it to be. Then turn it into something magical.

What were your dreams as a kid? Did you fulfill them? Or is there something that you want to do and are just waiting for that extra push?

(Photo is from our trip to Rome...another Euro post coming soon!)

  1. These are thoughts I go back to over and over again in my life. It's entirely true that the only person stopping you from fulfilling a dream is you. Of course there will be difficulties and unexpected turns, but ultimately it's you that decides whether it's worth it for you to find solutions for problems you may face or persevere through the hardest parts. Lovely post :)

Also can't wait to see more on Rome!
