Ask Yourself

I've always been a firm believer that self-reflection doesn't just start one day and end the next. It's an on-going process. One that I've both failed and exceeded at.

It's all too easy to get caught up in the routine of every days, going along with the motions and putting our self-awareness on the proverbial back burner. By doing so, you end up losing sight of the direction you want to go in and losing yourself in the process. Life gets busy and it happens, don't beat yourself up over it! Deep down, of course you know who you are, your hopes, dreams, values, what you want in your life, and yes, even your five year plan! Sometimes we get off track and it just takes asking the right questions to get there.

The right questions make you think. They light up that spark deep within your bones and get those gears turning in your mind.

You can imagine my delight when I stumbled upon Thought Questions, a site dedicated to asking you a question a day. (Questions I needed to ask myself!) Just one question. On the outside, it seems so simple, but trust me, they come with a powerful punch!

When's the last time you asked yourself...

> What are you waiting for?

> What has the past year taught you about yourself?

> Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?

> Life is too short to tolerate _________?

Reflection is the very key to progression. Even if you don't have the time to answer these questions now, bookmark this, come back to them, and really put some thought into your answers. Some of them may even surprise you.

Here's a couple more that really got me thinking...

Do you think it's important to "check-in" with yourself? Daily? Weekly? Monthly? What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I think that it is very important to check in with yourself daily. It get your mind running on what is important. To not let one day just simply slip by you. To stop planning for each weekend and to enjoy living in the weekdays. Now the next step is following through with the thoughts, and taking action.

  2. I love self-reflection! Although I don't have a schedule set in stone about doing it, I'd say it winds up happening about once a month.

That question about having the opportunity to share a message with the world reminds me of one of my favorite lines from "Walk the Line." The record producer asks Johnny Cash something like, "If you got hit by a bus and had time to sing one more song, just one song, what would it be?"

I tend to ask questions like these when I'm faced with big decisions or a fear (lol...usually about making a big decision).

Thanks for the link! I'm totally going to go check it out. :)
